Discover the benefits of Surya Namaskar for yourself! Also known as the ‘Sun Salutation’, Surya Namaskar has multiple benefits to help you feel good on the inside and look great on the outside. I practiced this technique for a year after it was recommended to me. It combines all the important yoga asanas into one easy cycle. Once I learned all the steps, it was easy to remember and apply them to my daily routine.
Starting Out With Surya Namaskar
I would start from 1 or 2 cycles for the first few days, then gradually move that number up to at least 12 cycles. For me, this was the maximum amount as you are not supposed to be completely exhausted after this. If I didn’t have much time one day, I would try to fit in 1 or 2 cycles so I wouldn’t lose the discipline. To not disrupt your routine, I would highly recommend starting out like this.
After two weeks, I started to notice my arms becoming more toned as a result of this amazing exercise. After some more weeks, I lost weight and built up a bit of muscle- not TOO big, but enough to get rid of the floppy skin on your arms. You, too, can have these terrific results…your arms, legs, and stomach will be slim and trim, along with a beautifully shaped, proportionate body.

Discovering the benefits of Surya Namaskar
Now take a look at the wonderful benefits of Surya Namaskar that will keep happy and healthy, hopefully forever or as long as you keep it up for…
Weight Loss
One of the most wanted benefits of any exercise is losing weight which Surya Namaskar does perfectly. You would be able to lose more weight from this asana in less time compared to any other exercise, like running, for example. With each round of Surya Namaskar, you can lose about 13.90 calories.
Strengthens muscles and tones the body
Each ultimate yoga pose strengthens joints/muscles and tones the body along with it. It works amazing for this. Not only do you look good after this, but your body feels less achy, especially if you sit down most of the day. I can definitely say it helped the pain in my back, as the body needs to be stretched more, also increasing flexibility- another great benefit.
Regular menstrual cycle
Surya Namaskar balances the energy in your body; regular practice regulates the body systems, in this case, the hormonal system. It also helps the nervous system and reduces stress which is one of the main causes of irregular periods. Menstrual cramps are also relieved from pain as it assists blood flow.
Improved digestion
The digestion is another one of the body’s systems that regulates performing Surya Namaskar. As you move from one pose to another, you are stretching and compressing the abdominal muscles and organs, allowing more blood flow around the body as well as the intestines.
Improves mental health
This is another area that Surya Namaskar is highly recommended for as it improves your concentration and focus. It is a combination of meditation and exercise. As you move to a different pose, you are focusing on each breath aligned to each movement, therefore putting you in a meditative state.
Depression and anxiety reduce as you practice this asana regularly; it calms the nervous system and promotes discipline. Both the masculine and feminine energies will become more balanced, helping you feel calmer and less restless. Hence less mood swings, more emotional stability, and overall making better decisions in life.
Cosmetic benefits of Surya Namaskar
The blood circulation that it brings all over the body improves the conditions of the skin and hair. You can fight old age, and the grey hair and wrinkles it comes with. The elasticity of the skin improves. You will be able to see a beautiful natural glow on your face again.
As you sweat, toxins are able to leave your body, reducing the number of breakouts you get. Resulting in less scarring and a flawless face.
Improved heart health
Surya Namaskar can strengthen the heart muscles and helps a regular heartbeat. As breathing increases, the oxygen supply stimulates blood flow to all vital organs- including the heart. Both blood pressure and sugar levels are kept in control.
Reduces Stress
This is one of the main benefits overall, as all the benefits listed above are tied closely to stress. Stress is the major cause of most, if not all, illnesses. It disrupts the body’s functions, especially the nervous system. If disturbed, it can affect digestion, menstrual cycle, weight, and mental/emotional/physical well-being. Surya Namaskar targets this stress, each pose has its own benefits, but each reduces stress. It is so beneficial to you reducing this stress to maintain a healthy living.

As you can see, the Sun Salutation brings a lot of benefits to your life, not just loss of belly fat, if done regularly. Once you learn the technique it is so easy to implement into your everyday routine. It is preferable to do this asana early morning to boost your energy for a busy day ahead. You will also see your stamina increase, as well as your flexibility improving each day.
